Flights / Transportation: Roundtrip Kansas City (MCI) to Palm Springs using our Southwest Companion Passes and points. The cost for the 4 of us to fly was just under $45. Check out this blog post if you want to learn how to earn Southwest Companion Passes on Repeat.
Utilizing the Chase Travel℠, I booked our rental car. I always pay $5-$10 for my rental car with my Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card since it offers excellent rental car coverage, and the rest is taken care of with Chase Ultimate Rewards.
Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card that gives me access to 14 incredible transfer partners, including Hyatt.
We loved this property. We played pickleball with the complementary equipment, played the yard games, and had so much fun at the pool. There are large water slides, a splash pad, an adults-only pool, family pools, and a lazy river. My kids loved it!
The total cash value of the hotel room would have been $5400! We would have never spent this much money! Thank goodness for points.
Fun: If you’re looking for a unique hiking experience, Joshua Tree National Park and Coachella Valley are two great options to consider. Both destinations offer stunning scenery and a chance to explore the great outdoors.
One popular trail is the Barker Dam Trail, which is a 1.3-mile loop that takes you past an old cattle watering hole and a historic dam. Another great option is the Ryan Mountain Trail, which is a challenging 3-mile hike that offers stunning views of the park from the summit.
One of the most popular trails is the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Hike, which starts at the base of the tram and climbs over 2,600 feet to the summit of San Jacinto Peak. Another great option is the Tahquitz Canyon Trail, which is a 2-mile hike that takes you to a stunning 60-foot waterfall.
Food: Thanks to my Hyatt Globalist status, we ate a big breakfast every morning at the hotel that was comped. We packed snacks from home, grabbed food by the pool for dinner, and then went out for ice cream afterward. Handel’s is our favorite place to grab ice cream when it’s available. We don’t have it in the Midwest!
Final thought: A long weekend in Palm Springs would never be in my budget. Thanks to points and miles, we are taking our family on many incredible adventures and have no plans to stop!

I was researching index funds and happened upon the points and miles community through creators who also post about budgets, financial independence, and investing.
Points and miles allowed those people to travel and work toward financial independence simultaneously.
Thank goodness I got started when I did. The past almost two years of travel have been something we will never forget.
Earning points and miles through credit cards is only a good choice if you have the financial discipline to use them, like cash/debit cards.
Since we started traveling with points and miles, we have had more money going into our investment and savings accounts than ever.
