Transfer Partners Guide
Complete guide to Chase, American Express, Capital One and Citi transfer partners and how to use them.
I’ve visited Washington, DC, three times, and here are some of my favorite activities and places to grab a bite to eat.
On our latest trip, we traveled with Southwest Airlines from Kansas City to Reagan National Airport. We saved some money by using points and companion pass tickets, and we paid only $44.80 for 2 tickets.
We stayed at the Hyatt Place Washington DC National Mall, which was an excellent choice. It’s located near the National Mall, the rooms are clean, and the breakfast is delicious. We booked a room for 12,000 Hyatt points per night, which we transferred from our favorite points account.
Regarding food, we tried some of the best places in the city, including Elephant Castle, Founding Fathers, Tune Inn, and Roaming Roos. Each place has a unique ambiance and serves up some amazing dishes.
As for sights, I highly recommend booking tickets in advance for the White House and the US Capitol tours. Both of these tours are cool and informative. We also visited the National Archives, Library of Congress, National Mall Monuments at Night, Air and Space Museum, Spy Museum, American History Museum, and Natural History Museum. The National Mall Monuments at Night are stunning and worth a visit.
On a previous trip with my husband, we attended a Nationals game and visited Mount Vernon, both of which were cool experiences. A great place to grab some food by Nationals Park is Due South.
We stayed at Kimpton Hotel Monaco, located in the Penn Quarter of Washington, DC, and it was beautiful. It was built in the 1840s and served as the General Post Office, and now it’s an 184-room hotel. Kimpton is a part of the IHG brand and can be booked with points. When you stay at Kimpton, don’t forget to google the current secret phrase to get a welcome amenity. Taffer’s Tavern is a great place to grab a late dinner and still be in walking distance of the hotel.
Following this itinerary allowed us to explore Washington, D.C.’s major sites and immerse ourselves in the city’s rich culture and history with our family. Plus, a big perk of DC is that most of the main sites are free of charge.
Final thought
Using points and miles to pay for your stay at the Hyatt Place National Mall is an excellent way to make your trip to DC more affordable.

I was researching index funds and happened upon the points and miles community through creators who also post about budgets, financial independence, and investing.
Points and miles allowed those people to travel and work toward financial independence simultaneously.
Thank goodness I got started when I did. The past almost two years of travel have been something we will never forget.
Earning points and miles through credit cards is only a good choice if you have the financial discipline to use them, like cash/debit cards.
Since we started traveling with points and miles, we have had more money going into our investment and savings accounts than ever.
